Growing on long thick stems that have little foliage, the light pink tuft of petals at the end gets a lot of attention. They are popular both for their ease of maintenance and for their good looks. The thick stems and attractive, 1.5-inch flowers make these ideal to use as cut flowers. Pink bachelor button flowers have a fuzzy, tufted texture and will attract butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden and supply an interesting texture to your flower garden. Taller shoots may need to be staked to keep them upright.
Bachelor buttons are annuals that need to be planted in full sunlight. The seeds should be planted outdoors in the ground or planted in a greenhouse during the winter. Plants should be spaced about 12 inches apart. Water pink bachelor buttons regularly when rainfall is minimal, watering the soil around the plants rather than the stems to prevent mildew. The flowers will self sow if the seeds are allowed to fall and remain on the ground. Seeds are packaged and germination tested for current year.
